Shade ‘n’ Sails was tasked by Frankston City Council to replace existing shade structures on the scenic Frankston Foreshore. The solution needed to provide reliable coverage for a seating area while preserving the coastal view and withstanding high wind conditions. Three 4m square centre post umbrellas were chosen for their suitability to meet these requirements.

Design and Specifications

The council required a shading solution that offered both functionality and aesthetic appeal for the foreshore’s seating area. The umbrellas had to provide ample shade without obstructing the beautiful coastal views with unnecessary posts.

Valmex FR580 waterproof material in Pearl White was selected for its durability and ability to complement the coastal environment. The steelwork was hot dip galvanised and powder coated to ensure long-lasting protection against the elements and to maintain a sleek appearance.

Installation and Coordination

The installation on the foreshore presented specific challenges, primarily due to the high wind conditions typical of coastal areas. The Shade ‘n’ Sails team worked diligently to ensure that the umbrellas were securely anchored, providing stability and safety without compromising the visual appeal or functionality.

Careful planning and coordination with Frankston City Council were crucial to ensure minimal disruption to the public during the installation process. The team successfully integrated the new umbrellas into the existing seating area, enhancing the space while maintaining the foreshore’s open and inviting atmosphere.

Materials and Durability

The Valmex FR580 waterproof fabric in Pearl White was chosen for its superior performance in outdoor settings, offering protection from both the sun and rain.

The hot dip galvanised steelwork, followed by a powder coat finish, ensures that the structures can withstand the harsh coastal environment, including exposure to saltwater and high winds. This combination of materials guarantees longevity and minimal maintenance, making it an ideal choice for the foreshore setting.

Client Satisfaction and Impact

The installation of the centre post umbrellas at Frankston Foreshore has been met with positive feedback from the council and the public. The umbrellas provide effective shade and weather protection while preserving the area’s aesthetic and ensuring unobstructed views of the coast.

The project demonstrates Shade ‘n’ Sails’ ability to deliver tailored shading solutions that meet specific environmental and aesthetic requirements. By focusing on both functionality and design, the team has created a space that enhances the public’s experience of the foreshore.

Conclusion

The umbrella installation at Frankston Foreshore showcases Shade ‘n’ Sails’ expertise in providing high-quality, customised shading solutions for public spaces. Through the use of durable materials and thoughtful design, the team has delivered a project that meets the needs of the community while enhancing the natural beauty of the coastal environment. This project highlights the importance of tailored solutions and meticulous execution in achieving optimal results for council-managed spaces.
