To enhance their outdoor spaces, Emerson School engaged Shade ‘n’ Sails for the manufacture and installation of two 5m square Flexshade® umbrellas. These structures were chosen for their ability to provide maximum coverage with minimal posts, perfectly complementing the school’s aesthetic and functional needs.
The project involved designing and installing two large Flexshade® umbrellas, each measuring 5m by 5m. These umbrellas were selected for their effectiveness in providing extensive shade while requiring only minimal ground fixtures. This design choice ensured that the outdoor area remained open and unobstructed, enhancing both usability and visual appeal.
The fabric used for the umbrellas was Valmex FR580 PVC in White. Known for its durability and waterproof qualities, this material ensures that the umbrellas provide reliable protection from the elements. The steelwork was hot dip galvanised and powder coated, guaranteeing a robust and long-lasting structure.
One of the primary challenges of this project was coordinating the installation post-landscape works. The team had to carefully navigate around the newly completed landscaping to install the footings for the umbrellas. Special attention was required to prevent contamination from the surrounding sand during the installation process.
Despite these challenges, the project team successfully installed the umbrellas with minimal disruption to the existing landscape. Their careful planning and execution ensured that the new structures integrated seamlessly with the surrounding environment.
The choice of Valmex FR580 PVC fabric in White provided the dual benefits of aesthetic appeal and practical functionality. Its waterproof properties ensure that the covered areas remain dry, making the space usable in various weather conditions. The steelwork, being hot dip galvanised and powder coated, adds to the durability and longevity of the umbrellas.
The project was completed in February 2024, on schedule and to the client’s satisfaction. The successful completion of this project highlights the team’s expertise in handling complex installations and delivering high-quality shading solutions.
Emerson School was very pleased with the final outcome. The Flexshade® umbrellas have significantly enhanced the outdoor space, providing ample shade and protection from the weather. The minimal post design has maintained the open feel of the area, allowing students and staff to use the space freely.
The positive feedback from the school underscores the effectiveness of the umbrellas in meeting their functional and aesthetic requirements. The project has improved the usability of the outdoor area, making it a more inviting space for various activities.
The installation of Flexshade® umbrellas at Emerson School showcases Shade ‘n’ Sails’ ability to deliver effective shading solutions. By addressing the specific needs of the client and overcoming the challenges of post-landscape installation, the team provided a solution that enhances both the functionality and appearance of the school’s outdoor space. This project stands as an example of how thoughtful design and careful execution can create lasting improvements in educational environments.
