Creswick Bowls Club sought a solution to provide players and spectators with increased comfort and protection from the elements while maintaining an unobstructed view of the playing field. The result was a custom-designed cantilever waterproof structure, blending functionality and visual appeal seamlessly.

Design and Specifications

The cantilever structure measures approximately 34 metres in length with a 4-metre projection, offering extensive coverage for the club’s outdoor areas. The design choice of a cantilever structure was driven by the desire to minimise the number of posts, ensuring clear sightlines and unobstructed views for both players and spectators.

The structure utilises Soltis Proof 502 PVC fabric, selected for its waterproof properties and durability. This material provides excellent protection from both sun and rain, ensuring year-round comfort for those using the facility. The steelwork was hot dip galvanised and powder coated, ensuring longevity and a polished finish that complements the existing club buildings.

Engineering Challenges and Solutions

One of the primary challenges was to design the structure in such a way that it did not obstruct the view from inside the club rooms. The height and post locations were meticulously planned to match the existing building’s aesthetics, ensuring that the interior views remained unaffected.

Additionally, the structure needed to offer robust protection from the elements without compromising on visual appeal. The Soltis Proof 502 PVC fabric was an ideal choice, providing durability and weather resistance while allowing for a sleek, modern appearance.

Construction and Execution

The construction phase was executed with precision, ensuring that the structure was installed to the highest standards. The hot dip galvanised and powder-coated steelwork provided both structural integrity and an appealing finish, ensuring that the cantilever structure not only performed well but also enhanced the overall look of the club.

Client Satisfaction and Impact

Completed in December 2020, the cantilever structure at Creswick Bowls Club has significantly improved the outdoor experience for players and spectators. The club now enjoys a sheltered area that offers protection from both sun and rain, making it a more attractive venue for year-round events.

The client, Creswick Bowls Club, expressed high satisfaction with the project, highlighting the improved comfort and the unobstructed views as key benefits. The structure has become a valuable asset to the club, enhancing its facilities and providing a more enjoyable environment for its members.

Conclusion

The cantilever structure at Creswick Bowls Club demonstrates how thoughtful design and quality materials can transform a space. By prioritising both functionality and aesthetics, the project has delivered a practical solution that enhances the club’s appeal. This project exemplifies the potential of custom-designed structures to improve commercial facilities, providing lasting value and improved user experience.
